The Braille Institute's Braille Challenge is the only academic competition of its kind in North America for students who are blind or partially sighted. Contestants compete in regional preliminary Braille Challenge events from January through March, and the top 50 students (10 in each category) with the highest scores are then invited to compete in the finals.
Who can participate?
- Elementary and secondary students in Ontario who are learning or using braille.
The Ontario Regional Braille Challenge motto is: TEST WITHOUT STRESS – Keep Calm, Braille On, and have fun!
- There are practice tests available so you can prepare.
- We provide lots of support for students, families and TVI’s
- CNIB will send everything you need: the tests and fun Braille Challenge swag (after competing, just return the tests to CNIB for marking)
- Testing happens at your school, at your convenience, anytime between February 24 and March 7, 2025.
Prizes!
- Competing in Braille Challenge means you are eligible for our Braille-Palooza! prizes (register for Braille Quest too and, double your chances!)
- Ten highest scoring students in each Contest Level win a free trip to Los Angeles to compete in the Finals (in 2024 three Ontario students were invited to California!)
