Uber Canada commits to accessibility and inclusion of persons with sight loss

CNIB is pleased to announce a partnership with Uber Canada. Under this partnership, Uber Canada is reaffirming their commitment with CNIB over the next three years to create and support ongoing awareness campaigns around service animal policies. This includes sponsoring a CNIB guide dog, who will be raised, trained, and matched to support a Canadian with sight loss. The future guide dog is expected to be born in the spring.

Over the next three years, Uber Canada and CNIB will work together to inform the public on the rights of guide dog handlers, while also breaking down barriers that impede accessibility.

The campaign’s primary goal is to increase information and resources for drivers on transporting riders with disabilities. This includes making sure drivers understand the laws governing guide dogs so Canadians who are blind or partially sighted can travel independently to school, work, and social and recreational activities in their community.

Along with this critical public awareness campaign, Uber Canada’s sponsorship of a future guide dog will help CNIB meet rising demands. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for CNIB guide dogs increased by 375 per cent, with some individuals waiting up to 18 months for a dog.

CNIB is thrilled to have Uber Canada as one of its corporate partners. Thank you, Uber Canada!
