The National Youth Council believes in recognizing youth with sight loss. That's why it created the Leadership Award to celebrate people going above and beyond to make a difference in their community, province or country.
One winner is selected yearly and presented with a plaque and $250 prize. Their accomplishments are also shared across CNIB's national social media channels.

People with disabilities represent 27% of Canada’s population, yet they have no dedicated champion in the federal Cabinet announced today. Since November 2015, successive Liberal governments have made significant strides in advancing the rights and protections of people with disabilities. Landmark legislation like the Accessible Canada Act and the Canadian Disability Benefit, while not perfect, were important steps forward in improving the lives of millions of Canadians.
This is why Prime Minister Mark Carney’s new cabinet, without a Minister or Secretary of State solely responsible for disability inclusion and accessibility, is incredibly puzzling and concerning.
With support from RBC Foundation, we are delivering vital resources to 364 young people who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision across Canada through CNIB’s Come to Work employment program.
Yesterday, 35 new partnerships, including 22 guide dogs, seven buddy dogs, two ambassador dogs, and four brood dogs, formally graduated as part of the CNIB Guide Dogs Class of 2025.
Local celebrations were held in communities throughout Canada. For many graduates, the events marked the end of months of anticipation and training and the beginning of a new life-changing journey with their guide dog.
TORONTO – April 30, 2025 – CNIB and Hydro One Inc. (Hydro One) announced today a three-year partnership to enhance safety training infrastructure at the CNIB Guide Dogs Canine Campus in Carleton Place, Ontario. The partnership will focus on three components of the training program.
