Join CNIB for an inclusive ice-skating opportunity that combines a community public skating session with a pre-skate CNIB inclusive workshop.
It is important to know that you belong in all the amazing opportunities that your community has to offer! The City of Windsor offers many public skating opportunities throughout the season at various arenas around the region. As a person with vision loss we sometimes feel like that environment may not be welcoming or maybe a bit too hectic. Join us 30 minutes prior to the community skate, where we will have only CNIB participants and families on the ice to take part in a brief inclusive workshop. This will give you a few minutes on the ice, to learn some tips and ideas on how you can skate with a family member or friend, to ensure that not only yourself, but the other members of the public are all safe and happy during the public skate. These few minutes prior to the official public skate, which is sponsored by CNIB, will give you a quieter and more controlled environment to brush up on your skills for skating, perhaps with a guide or a piece of adapted equipment to act as a tether. After our brief on ice workshop, you will then be ready to jump right back on the ice with the rest of the Windsor community, taking part in this exciting public skating opportunity This event is open to all CNIB participants, but we definitely encourage the youth and families to attend. We encourage everyone attending to bring a friend or family member who could be their skating buddy and help keep them safe as well as help navigate them around other community members as needed. If you are under the age of 18, it is required that you have a family member or guardian with you. It is required that everyone on ice wears skates and a helmet. The official public skate starts at 4 p.m., but we will be ready to go on the ice at 3:30 p.m. sharp!
