Q&A with CNIB Brand Ambassador Ben Mulroney
You know him as our Brand Ambassador and one of our biggest champions – but do you know what Ben Mulroney really loves the most about working with CNIB? In this special Q&A, Ben talks about our close partnership, his passion for the cause, and of course, dogs!
What first drew you to join CNIB as our Brand Ambassador?
My interest in joining CNIB came directly from something my father told me a long time ago. He believes that no organization in Canada has a more significant mandate or a heavier lift than CNIB, as it must interface with every level of government and industry on issues that affect every Canadian from every walk of life from the moment they wake up to the time they go to sleep.
The goal of ensuring that Canadians living with sight loss are able to enjoy life with the same freedoms and potential as everyone else is as noble a cause as any. There is nothing more important than creating a country where everyone, no matter their talents or limitations is able to live up to their potential and live a life free of stigma.
What’s your favourite part about working with CNIB?
I’d like to say it’s the people, but let’s be honest, it’s all about the dogs!
What’s something you think people should know about CNIB?
I think the fact that CNIB receives no public funding, and all its resources come from donations is surprising to many.
Why do you think people should support our work and cause?
Sight loss is not confined to any particular group. It can affect absolutely anyone at any point in their lives. It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor, black or white, new to this country or have been here for centuries. We can all be affected by sight loss and therefore should all work towards making the world accessible to all.
What’s one fun fact about you that CNIB supporters would be surprised to learn?
I'm allergic to long-haired dogs. That would surprise pretty much anyone who’s seen how enthusiastic I am to meet and play with all the dogs on their journeys to become CNIB Guide Dogs.
