Isn’t it time you try something new? Active Adult Week / Young Adult Week at CNIB Lake Joe

#1 Active Adult Week:

All you need is an interest in joining other adults who want to try a new sport and are willing to break a sweat. It will be fun, we promise!

This week is an introduction to one of three sports – your choice: blind hockey; blind soccer; and water sports. It’s okay if you’ve never played the sport before, but you will need to come prepared with basic skills (i.e. an ability to skate or swim).

Mornings will focus on sport-specific skill development in small groups so you can really get the hang of the sport and start to perfect your abilities. The afternoons will be full of structured group activities like hiking and learning-to-canoe. Don’t worry, there will be “low cardio” moments where you can relax with fellow attendees and learn from a variety of special guest speakers: nutritionists, para-athletes, mental wellness experts, and more.

“This program is perfect for anyone who wants to be more active, wants to try sports they’ve never tried before, and wants to learn how to apply facets of active living into their own lives outside of camp,” explains Emilee Schevers, Coordinator, Sport and Active Living. “An added perk is the chance to meet others with similar interests.”

To learn more about the Active Adult Week program and get yourself prepped, we invite you to register for our free online programs in April:

#2 Young Adult Week

If you’re between 19-29 years of age, register for the Young Adult Week and enjoy the amazing Lake Joe experience with your peers and meet others from across Canada.

The brainchild of members of CNIB’s National Youth Council, this program has been developed by youth for youth. There will be structured group activities and lots of time to float and be independent, plus special perks including a spa experience, al fresco dining and of course, some surprises!

If you’d like to meet other youth ahead of the Young Adult Week, please come to our monthly online Young Adult Pub Night. It was recently launched by members of the National Youth Council and is hosted the second Friday of each month from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Eastern Time. It’s free,  tons of fun, and a great way to dip your toes into the water to get to know others in a low stress, low commitment way.

“I fit right into this age range and know exactly what it’s like to be an adult who’s partially sighted, new out of school and living in a new area,” shares Taylor Gaudon, Virtual Program Coordinator and volunteer on the National Youth Council. “It can be very difficult to make friends, especially those who understand my journey. We are creating this experience not just for ourselves, but for others who want to be part of this incredible community.”

Build this excitement to be part of the community in person. Celebrate and feel empowered. Lift others up and share these experiences.
