Happy Black History Month to everyone in the CNIB Family! Staff in the Greater Toronto Area have been working hard to ensure that this year’s Black History Month is one to remember. We’ll be celebrating with spectacular virtual programs to showcase musical and artistic talents, immerse participants in an audio-described storytelling journey, and profile delicious dishes through virtual cooking classes.
On February 17, we welcomed participants for an evening of description-rich storytelling celebrating Black Canadians and their communities with acclaimed describer and storyteller JJ Hunt. The event included stories of notable people who have shaped black Canadian history and descriptions of archival photos, film clips, and key visuals, all woven into engaging narratives.
On February 25, we’ll take a journey back in time to explore black history and its influence on our present and future. The showcase will include a special performance by a steelpan artist and African storyteller.
CNIB participants, volunteers, and staff look forward to learning about, reflecting on, and celebrating black historians and leaders, both past and present. It is important to look back at the past to build the road for the future.
