Martin Springer has played a pivotal role in creating more diverse and inclusive spaces for CNIB participants. A passionate volunteer, Martin has used his voice and lived experiences to host Black History Month events, facilitate informative black-themed trivia events, and create and deliver content for Black Voices United – a virtual peer group that gives participants a space to share experiences and support and hear from guest speakers.
Martin’s experiences as a working professional and Black father living with sight loss have made him a pillar of Black Voices United since the group’s inception. His willingness to share his expertise and create a space for important dialogue, such as the value of highlighting intersectionality, has helped create a rich learning environment and support for all participants.
Martin is also passionate about mentoring Black youth living with sight loss by sharing the knowledge he’s gained through his lived experiences. As a devoted father, grandfather, friend, and community member, Martin strives to empower people within the Black and blind communities through his many creative outlets that bring attention to the contributions of influential Black people within Canada.
Join Martin on Monday, February 27, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Eastern for a Black History Month trivia event covering sports, entertainment, historical moments, Black leaders, and changemakers. To register, email neisha.mitchell@cnib.ca or bernard.akuoko@cnib.ca.
