Introducing CNIB Access Labs

In 2024, accessibility shouldn’t be an afterthought, but a basic right. Yet, digital and physical barriers are everywhere. From websites to stores, many everyday spaces remain inaccessible for Canadians who are blind or partially sighted.

CNIB’s mission is to break down accessibility barriers so Canadians with sight loss can live the lives they choose. That’s where CNIB Access Labs comes in.

CNIB Access Labs is a team of passionate accessibility experts and testers working to make digital experiences and built environments inclusive for all.

So, what does CNIB Access Labs do? We create accessible experiences. We partner with businesses and organizations across industries to design inclusive digital products, websites, and physical spaces. Our expert team provides accessibility audits, customer journey mapping, and built environment assessments to ensure everyone can fully participate.

At the core of our mission is a diverse team of accessibility testers – people who are blind, Deafblind, or who have low vision. They put experiences to the test, helping us identify and eliminate barriers.

“At CNIB Access Labs, we firmly believe that accessibility should be at the heart of every organization’s design and service delivery,” says David Demers, Managing Director of CNIB Access Labs. “We are proud to bring our industry-leading expertise to the forefront and collaborate with businesses and institutions across Canada to create inclusive environments that benefit all individuals.”

Importantly, CNIB Access Labs is a social enterprise. Proceeds from every project are reinvested into CNIB's innovative programs for Canadians with sight loss. Join the movement! Become a tester, explore our services, or learn more at cnib-accesslabs.ca.
