VocalEye is the first dedicated live description service for blind and partially sighted people in Canada. Since its inception, VocalEye has described over 300 live events including theatre performances, dance, opera, parades, fireworks and public art tours for people who are blind and partially sighted. 

VocalEye's Almost Live Zoom events will introduce you to a variety of audio plays, virtual art tours, festival highlights, music, dance, documentary film, storytelling and more with host Amy Amantea and special guest artists. Almost Live Zoom events are designed to be accessible for people who are blind and partially sighted, but everyone is welcome to attend. Whether you have sight loss, blindness, or are simply curious, this unique experience will open your eyes to a new way of 'seeing' the world. Every week is a new adventure! 

VocalEye Almost Live Zoom events

  • Events are hosted most Wednesday evenings (except for the first Wednesday of the month). 
  • The virtual lobby opens at 6:30 p.m. Pacific Time for socializing. The host's official welcome and pre-show introduction begins at 6:45 p.m. The feature presentation begins at 7 p.m., followed by Q and A and community conversation.
  • Almost Live Zoom events are designed to be accessible for people who are blind and partially sighted, but everyone is welcome to join us.
  • Events are free and registration is required for first-time attendees. Sign up for one event or the whole season.
  • There is only one-time registration for the online Vocal Eye Online events. Online Vocal Eye registration link.
  • After registering, you will receive event details and a Zoom link on the day of each event. 
  • Monthly Zoom bulletins will announce upcoming features.

Tangled Art + Disability: Accessible Gallery Visit – October
Toronto
In October, CNIB GTA art enthusiasts are invited to visit Tangled Art + Disability, a Toronto gallery with the mandate to support disability-identified artists, to cultivate Disability Arts in Canada, and to enhance access to the arts for artists and all audiences. Please join us for “There is always something better," curated by Salima Punjani and featuring the artwork of Harmeet Rahal, Sonali Menezes and Moira Williams. The Tangled Art + Disability: Accessible Gallery visit is on Saturday, October 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants will travel independently to the 401 Richmond gallery complex where the group will be met by CNIB staff and volunteers to navigate to Tangled Art and Disability. All ages are welcome.

Beyond Sight Series
The Beyond Sight Series feature monthly virtual presentations from various services, businesses and organizations in our community. Each month, we will offer a different topic and speaker will join us to discuss a variety of topics. Examples include: RDSP’s, wills, budgeting, nutrition and lots more. Fourth Monday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Newfoundland Time on Zoom.

Let's Get Gardening
If you have a green thumb (or you'd like to have one), then this gardening discussion group is for you! We swap success stories, talk about our favorite plants, and generally 'dish the dirt' on all things horticultural. For all levels of garden enthusiasts. Whether you patio or container garden, or have lots of gardening space, the time in this group will just buzz by. Every Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. Eastern Time on Zoom.

Early Years Speaker Series – October
Join the Early Years Digital Literacy Project team and other industry partners for an exciting series of presentations. Topics will focus on supporting the learning and development of children who are blind or low vision, between the ages of 2-6 who are living in Canada. October Session: Meet Sharon Kanhai-Johnston, the new Family Guide at CNIB. Learn about this exciting new program that is being piloted now as part of CNIB Next Generation in Ontario and ask questions or share feedback about what the role could look like as it expands across Canada. Exploring Meditation and Mindfulness Attitudes
In a caring and supportive virtual environment with peers, participants will explore meditation, and mindfulness attitudes. Through group interaction, participants will develop and share insights, and learn how practice can help with managing life's challenges. This is a 10-week introductory program hosted on Zoom, and is not a drop in format.
