TTC CNIB Transit Pass Update – 2024

Main Content

The TTC has extended the expiration date for TTC CNIB cards used by eligible CNIB clients when travelling on the system. TTC CNIB cards that were set to expire on January 31, 2024, will now expire on January 31, 2025. This means that your card is now valid for another year.

To activate the new expiration date, simply tap your TTC CNIB card on a PRESTO card reader on a fare gate, bus, streetcar or Wheel-Trans vehicle anytime between January 22, 2024 and April 20, 2024. Once tapped, your card expiration date will automatically extend to January 31, 2025.

As a reminder, your TTC CNIB card is only valid when used in combination with your CNIB card and can only be used for free travel on the TTC. Though your TTC CNIB card functions like a regular PRESTO card, you should not load any money onto the card or change the fare setting on your card. If you travel on any other transit system that uses PRESTO, you should use a separate card to pay for your journey. When travelling on the TTC, you must continue to tap your TTC CNIB card every time you board a vehicle on the street and when you enter a station. The reader will recognize your card as a TTC CNIB card, and you will not be charged a fare.

Below, we've answered some frequently asked questions about the renewal process.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. When does my TTC Transit Pass expire? The Toronto Transit Commission has extended the expiration date for Transit Passes, which were set to expire on January 31, 2024, to January 31, 2025. This means that your card is now valid for another year.

2. Is this renewal automatic? No. For the extended expiration date to take effect, TTC CNIB cards must be tapped on a PRESTO card reader on a fare gate, bus, streetcar or Wheel-Trans vehicle between January 22, 2024 – April 30, 2024.

3. I am Wheel-Trans user and don't normally tap my card. Do I need to tap my card? Yes. All Transit Passes must be tapped before April 30, 2024; this includes PRESTO card readers on Wheel-Trans vehicles.

4. Why is my TTC Transit Pass renewal only valid for one year – I thought my pass was renewed every four years?  In February 2024, the TTC announced they would be updating the renewal process for TTC CNIB transit passes. Now, TTC CNIB cards  will be renewed yearly. The process of renewing your pass by tapping your pass on a PRESTO card reader remains unchanged.

5. Who do I contact if I have more questions? Please direct all questions you may have to CNIB's Contact Centre at 1-800-563-2642 or email us at info@cnib.ca, and our team will be happy to help you.
