CNIB Lake Joe volunteers like Corey Braun play a vital role in crafting enriching camp experiences.
“Being a volunteer at CNIB Lake Joe will change your life in a positive and remarkable way,” says Corey.
Corey’s journey with CNIB Lake Joe began in 2011 when his mother recommended that he spend the summer volunteering as a lifeguard/camp counsellor.
“More than ten years later, I continue to be involved with the camp and have benefited positively from my experiences,” says Corey.
Outside of camp, Corey is a tax advisor as a Chartered Professional Accountant.
“I know that my success in my career is largely driven by the skills that I gained as a staff member and volunteer at CNIB Lake Joe. The intangible skills you develop through the roles played at camp will positively impact your life journey wherever it may lead you.”
During the summer of 2020, Corey helped with launching a virtual CNIB Lake Joe camp experience. His openness to adapting to a virtual setting enabled him to connect with more Lake Joe guests from afar.
“Overcoming challenges yields positive results – if we use the pandemic as an example, it has enabled the ability to stay connected in a virtual environment with people that you may only see at an in-person camp experience.”
As an active volunteer and newly appointed Chair of the CNIB Lake Joe Advisory Board, Corey is celebrated for his incredible contributions to camp by Eugene Chong, General Manager CNIB Lake Joe.
“Corey puts his heart into his efforts here at CNIB Lake Joe. His insight and leadership on the Advisory Board are essential to our collaborative success,” says Eugene.
Corey says he has developed a limitless mindset and encourages everyone to try volunteering at CNIB Lake Joe.
“CNIB Lake Joe plays such an important role in so many lives and, as a volunteer, it is so rewarding to work with everyone to show them first-hand that possibilities are endless so long as you believe you can achieve. CNIB Lake Joe is for everyone. So, I challenge everyone to get to the camp to volunteer. Maybe you too will look back in ten years with memories of so many experiences at CNIB Lake Joe that will leave you with a great feeling.”
