Ontario Election Campaign 2022

By: Alice Clark

On June 2, Ontarians went to the polls and voted in a new majority government. Leading to the election, CNIB launched an advocacy campaign seeking commitments from all candidates and parties to prioritize employment opportunities for Ontarians with disabilities as part of the post-pandemic economic recovery.

With your help, we sent over 200 letters to local candidates urging all candidates and parties to commit to prioritizing employment opportunities for people with disabilities during the post-pandemic economic recovery.

While the election is over, the work to hold politicians’ feet to the fire is just beginning. In the next mandate of Ontario’s Provincial Parliament, CNIB will hold the government accountable for their campaign promises and use the momentum of this campaign to push for:

  • The appointment of a task force to develop a multi-ministry strategy to ensure Ontarians with sight loss and other sensory disabilities have the supports and skills they need to contribute to the Ontario economy.
  • Ensure that any such strategy empowers people to successfully transition from social assistance to meaningful employment.
  • Commitment to ensuring that Ontarians with sight loss have the technology they need to find and keep meaningful employment.

Since the election, CNIB has started the important work of developing relationships with Ministers and Members of Provincial Parliament. If you’re interested in meeting with CNIB and your local Member of Provincial Parliament, email advocacy@cnib.ca
