Accessibility in the Federal Election

A voter uses a braille voting template. Their index finger touches the braille template.

Canadians will head to the polls on Monday, April 28, 2025 for a Federal Election. CNIB wants to make sure electors who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision are aware of their right to accessible services and tools available at the polls.

Accessibility Features

The following materials will be available for voters on election day and at advanced polls:

  • Magnifier with light
  • Voting screen that lets more light in
  • Sign language interpretation (must be requested ahead of time – electors are encouraged to call the Elections Canada office in their riding by the Tuesday before election day, 6:00 p.m.)
  • Braille list of candidates (on election day only)
  • Large-print list of candidates
  • Tactile and braille voting templates
  • Assistance in marking a ballot
  • Large grip pencil

Electors may also use an assistive device when voting, such as their own pencil to mark the ballot, or smartphone to read the ballot behind the voting screen. Smartphone devices may be connected to the internet.

Once the election is called, electors can make sure their assigned polling stations meet their accessibility needs by:

  • Checking their voter information card.
  • Visiting elections.ca and entering their postal code into the Voter Information Service box.
