CNIB Legal Support

Main Content

Through the largest consultation process in CNIB’s history, we heard directly from people impacted by blindness across Canada that they wanted CNIB to provide more support in instances where their human rights are infringed upon.

In response to their feedback and to help provide greater access to justice, we are now offering legal support (referral services and litigation grants) to Canadians who encounter legal issues they may require support with as part of the CNIB Advocacy program.

Legal Referral Service

We provide individuals who are blind, low vision or Deafblind with free, confidential legal referrals to community legal services and/or organizations that align with their needs.

Litigation Grants

Individuals who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision who wish to challenge discrimination or inequities through legal action may be eligible for financial support for their litigation.

Know Your Rights

CNIB also helps people impacted by blindness understand their rights through Know Your Rights materials – plain language legal information resources, including handbooks, videos, and more. These resources are meant to educate people throughout Canada who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision about their human rights, and empower them to self-advocate and challenge discrimination.
