Repair Café Toronto – January

At the CNIB Repair Café, the skilled fixers will be on hand to repair a variety of items, with a special focus on The primary focus on repairing accessibility devices such as Perkins braillers, white canes, electronic magnifiers, talking and braille watches, and sewing-related repairs. Saturday, January 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CNIB GTA Community Hub.

Armchair Travel – January

Transport yourself to another country from the comfort of the London Hub. The music, the history, the fun facts, and the food. Be prepared to help make a simple food item and taste it. Please let us know at registration if you allergic to any food items. Tuesday, January 21 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the CNIB London Community Hub.

CNIB Consultation on transit mobility in rural areas

Tell us how you navigate your rural community! To better understand how people who are blind, Deafblind or have low vision and live in rural areas get around with limited or no public transit, CNIB is launching a consultation to examine transit and mobility in rural Canada.  As part of the consultation, we’re conducting a survey and organizing focus groups to gather feedback from residents living in rural areas.

‘Home away from home’ This family spends summers at a camp that’s a haven for their kids with low vision

Every summer, at the start of her family’s vacation, Sarah Knip stops to take a photograph of the large welcome sign that arches over the laneway leading to CNIB Lake Joe. That moment is the first in a string of Knip family traditions at the fully accessible camp located on the northwest corner of Lake Joseph in Muskoka.

Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) are vital for pedestrian safety and independence. Join CNIB in advocating for the installation, proper implementation and continued maintenance of APS devices by writing to your city officials.

Don’t forget to ring! A public awareness initiative for safer cycling on The Confederation Trail

Ringing your bicycle bell is a small gesture of respect that makes shared outdoor spaces more enjoyable for everyone. A bell ring alerts pedestrians of a rider’s presence and serves as a courteous heads-up, preventing sudden surprises, collisions, and injuries. Always ring your bicycle bell when passing pedestrians along The Confederation Trail!

Sam Smadella is a recreational therapist who has always had a passion for helping others. Whether it's in palliative care, child care, or diverse communities, Sam always finds herself making an incredible impact wherever she goes.

Class of 2024

At local celebrations across the country, 23 new partnerships (15 guide dogs, seven buddy dogs, and one ambassador dog) graduated as part of the CNIB Guide Dog Class of 2024.
