Want to have a say in the future of accessibility design? Be a part of the Co-design festival!

Help leading researchers from CNIB’s Research Team to gain meaningful feedback on their work.

The hybrid co-design festival brings researchers and the disability community together to collaborate and make change. CNIB’s Research and Ideas Team is keen to gain meaningful feedback on their projects. These teams are looking for participants who identify as blind, Deafblind, partially sighted, or living with sensory processing disabilities (e.g., brain injury, neurodiversity) to attend in-person and virtual co-design sessions.

With six different sessions, participants can provide their insights on topics including artificial intelligence, responsible research and medical devices.  Each session is part of an individual research project.

Benefits of co-design
Co-design takes the standard focus group to a new level by brainstorming collectively. By pulling together researcher expertise with lived experience, the process gains a stronger insight from all sides. Co-design is driven by principles of universal design and addressing the accessibility needs of those directly impacted by the design process.

Co-design Festival schedule:
In person session: Monday, March 11, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Microsoft Campus at the CIBC Square (81 Bay Street at the corner of Bay and Front Streets) in Toronto, Ontario.

Registration is required and you can sign up for up to three sessions: Registration Form.

Acknowledging Expertise & Compensation
Honoraria is offered in the amount of $200 for the full day in-person session and will be sent out after the event in the form of Amazon gift cards. Participants also receive $50 honorarium for transportation.

Barriers to Participation
We understand that individuals face different barriers and lived circumstances. It is important for our research teams to bring new voices into research processes as part of hosting an accessible and inclusive event. If you have any other accessibility needs and barriers to participation, please reach out to the team.  We will work together to help ensure that diverse perspectives feel welcome and appreciated and that all may participate in the co-design festival days.

Privacy & Confidentiality
Any information collected during registration will not be shared outside the organizing committee. As the sessions are research activities, participants will be in contact with the session lead to arrange informed consent in alignment with their own institution’s ethics review board requirements and the Tri-council policy statement on research ethics.

Accessibility Needs
Session leads will ensure the use of accessible documents and presentations, where necessary.
