  • Sessions will be roughly one-hour in length
  • Once their partnership with one client is completed, volunteers will be assigned a new client

Position Description


Provide one-to-one technology training and support; for a person who is blind or partially sighted to increase their confidence and assist them to live the life they choose

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Attend initial training meeting/session with Program Lead and client
  • Set up a maximum of 5 follow-up sessions to take place in a community location or public space (for example: library, coffee shop, CNIB office space)
  • Using training modules as a guide, work on training your client on how to use their iPhone or similar device along with the accessibility apps
  • Provide reports to Program Lead on how training is going along with any requests for support
  • Notify the client in advance if you will miss a scheduled appointment 
  • When a client needs more support, service, counseling or information then you can give, refer them back to Program Lead
  • Track and report volunteer hours as directed

Qualities, Skills and Training
  • Willingness to learn and work with people with sight loss
  • Knowledge and experience using accessibility features on iPhones OR
  • Willingness to be trained on above features combined with an interest in technology
  • Trustworthy, patient, and friendly, empathetic manner
  • Reliable, organized and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong English skills and ability to communicate effectively
  • Orientation, including: About CNIB and Technology training (including Voiceover or Zoom and accessibility apps)
  • Must be willing to attend ongoing training regarding new advances in technology or new teaching techniques
  • Minimum 14 years old
