CNIB SmartLife: Navigating Windows with JAWS (Evening)

Unlock the Power of Accessibility by embarking on a journey through the essential aspects of Windows navigation using JAWS (Job Access With Speech). Whether you're new to JAWS or looking to refine your skills, this series is designed to empower you to navigate Windows confidently. The Navigating Windows with JAWS series runs for 8 weeks every Tuesday (August 6-September 26) from 7 to 9 p.m. on Zoom.

Described Video / Audio Description Focus Group

In June, the Canadian Radio and Television Commission (CRTC) launched a notice of consultation regarding described video/audio description for online content. As in the past, CNIB is planning to submit an intervention and we are asking Canadians with sight loss to share their perspectives. Join us for a focus group discussion on Saturday, August 10 at 2:00 p.m. Atlantic Time on Zoom.

Young Achievers (grades 9-10)

Get serious about your academic and career goals with Young Achievers. This bridging program to the flagship SCORE Scholars program helps participants build fundamental analytical and goal setting skills. Early volunteer, summer and part time jobs are discussed in relationship to long term school and career aspirations. Special guest speakers who experience vision loss and are leaders in their field will provide personal stories for inspiration.Young Achievers (grades 9-10) meets weekdays (August 12-23) from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time via Zoom.

Writing with Feeling Retreat 2024

Attention all Canadian youth who use or are learning braille – CNIB is now accepting applications for the annual Writing with Feeling Retreat! Whether you're a new braille user with a passion for creative writing or crafting a poem, story, or essay for the CNIB Braille Creative Writing Contest, we welcome you to join our annual Writing with Feeling retreat at CNIB Lake Joe in Muskoka, Ontario.

CNIB SmartLife: Using Accessible QR Codes (Daytime)

QR codes are a great way to direct people to websites and resources using only an image and a phone camera. You may have heard of them and even used them. But have you heard of Accessible QR codes? Unlike regular QR codes, these were specially developed for users who are blind or low vision and have additional features which make them very useful for identifying objects in your surroundings. Wednesday, August 14 from 1 t o 2:30 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Zoom.

CNIB Lake Joe: Family Week (August 19-24, all ages)

Family Weeks are open to guests with sight loss and everyone in their family. Activities are available for all ages with a daily kids camp and adult programs too.
