Gift of property FAQs

Main Content

What is a gift of property?

A gift of property, also called a “gift in kind,” is a donation of one or more assets like real estate, works of art, a collection, or a car. A gift of property allows you to support a charity you believe in for the future, while receiving tax benefits now.

How can I make a gift of property to the CNIB Foundation?

We’ll help you make a gift of property to the CNIB Foundation and answer your questions. Get in touch with Cindi Meyer at 1-800-563-2642 ext. 7470 or and we’re happy to lend a hand.
But it’s always best to consult your lawyer or financial advisor before making a gift of property. If you don’t have a lawyer, we can help you find a professional in your area.

How is the value of my property assessed?

Fair market value of your property will be assessed by a professional appraisal. The charitable tax receipt you receive is determined by that amount.
