Charitable remainder trust FAQs

Main Content

What is a charitable remainder trust (CRT)?

With a CRT, you keep the benefit of an asset but transfer the formal ownership to the CNIB Foundation, enabling you to enjoy your assets while making a huge impact for Canadians who are blind or partially sighted.

We can help answer your questions and prepare you to meet with your lawyer or financial advisor to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.
Contact us at 1-800-563-2642 or email ruth.dsouza@cnib.ca and we’ll be happy to help you set up your CRT.

How much will my tax receipt be for?

The size of the tax receipt you receive from your CRT is determined by several factors, like your age, payment schedule and whether you are male or female. We'll be happy to let you know the amount of your tax receipt amount.

Can I change or remove the CRT after I make it?

Once you’ve made a CRT, you cannot change or reverse it. We strongly encourage you to seek independent financial advice before deciding to commit to this kind of gift.
