Peer Support Programs

It's not unusual to feel depressed, angry or alone when you experience a loss of sight. There will probably be times when you wish you had someone to help you work through these feelings. If you're struggling to overcome the emotional challenges of sight loss, we're here for you. Peer Support groups give you the opportunity to connect with others who are living with sight loss.

Eastern Canada Social Meet Up Teleconference

Are you craving that social interaction you normally get from going for coffee, attending meetings or going shopping? We are here to provide a safe alternative. We’ll get to know each other, share some good news stories, and discuss practical tips for staying healthy and connected. Join us on Tuesday mornings from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Eastern Time for a friendly group chat. Call in information will be given upon registration.

Diabetes & Vision Loss Group

Diabetes Retinopathy is the fourth leading cause of blindness in Canada. Many of us are living with or assist someone living with diabetes and sight loss. In this group, we will discuss life hacks, have guest speakers from the diabetic community, and talk about technology. This group meets via Zoom web conference biweekly from 3 to 4 p.m. Eastern Time. CNIB Young Women's Group

Are you a young woman preparing for university or starting your professional life? Join us to meet other confident, independent young women with similar interests and experiences. We will focus on issues that are relevant to your life, learn new things, and discuss the challenges of living with sight loss. Topics such as mental health, socialization, dating and navigating the workforce are just some of the things we will delve into. This group runs online via Zoom web conference on July 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Call in information will be given upon registration.

Guide Dog Handlers Chat Group

This is a safe and supportive place for guide dog handlers from across the country to get together and chat. Share the joys and challenges of being a guide dog handler as well as tips to keep our guide dogs happy and engaged. Life Coaching: Love, Dating and Relationships

Be part of this engaging life coaching series on love, dating and relationships. This series will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month, for six months, via Zoom web conference or teleconference. Call in information will be given upon registration.

The Lighter Side

Participants are invited to share anything (PG) that tickled their funny bone. It could be a suggestion for a movie, series, song, news item. You can share a joke or even personal anecdote.  All participants will have the opportunity to share or just listen if they prefer. This teleconference group will connect with others across the region who are living with sight loss.  This group meets via teleconference every Wednesday from 1:30-3 p.m. Eastern Time. Call in information will be given upon registration.

Interested in meeting other members of the LGBTQ2S+ community who are also blind or partially sighted? CNIB is launching a new program (for adults 18+) to connect with other LGBTQ2S+ participants across the country! The group will meet monthly to share common experiences, support one another, and discuss topics chosen by the group.
