Peer Support Programs

It's not unusual to feel depressed, angry or alone when you experience a loss of sight. There will probably be times when you wish you had someone to help you work through these feelings. If you're struggling to overcome the emotional challenges of sight loss, we're here for you. Peer Support groups give you the opportunity to connect with others who are living with sight loss.

Eastern Canada Social Meet Up Teleconference

Are you craving that social interaction you normally get from going for coffee, attending meetings or going shopping? We are here to provide a safe alternative. We’ll get to know each other, share some good news stories, and discuss practical tips for staying healthy and connected. Join us on Tuesday mornings from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Eastern Time for a friendly group chat. Call in information will be given upon registration.

Guide Dog Handlers Chat Group

This is a safe and supportive place for guide dog handlers from across the country to get together and chat. Share the joys and challenges of being a guide dog handler as well as tips to keep our guide dogs happy and engaged. This group runs via Zoom web conference every second Friday from 1-2 p.m. Eastern Time. Call-in information will be given upon registration.

Join us for coffee, snacks and chatter! Kick back and relax over a cup of java and some great conversation. This group runs via Zoom web conference and teleconference every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Newfoundland Time. Call in information will be given upon registration.

A CNIB social to bring us closer in a time of social distancing! This group runs via teleconference every Wednesday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Call in information will be given upon registration.

Guide Dog Peer Group (Ontario)

Join other guide dog handlers to talk about social/advocacy issues. This group meets via teleconference biweekly on Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Call-in information will be given upon registration.

An opportunity to virtually connect with others and chat about anything and everything . A safe space to meet new people, share ideas, and learn new things. This teleconference group will connect with others across the region who are living with sight loss.  This group meets via teleconference every Wednesday from 1:30-3 p.m. Eastern Time. Call in information will be given upon registration.

Understanding, support, mentorship and advice when you need it most. Struggling with the emotional challenges of sight loss? We're here for you. This peer support group meets via Zoom web conference on August 21 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Call in information will be given upon registration.

The Lighter Side

Participants are invited to share anything (PG) that tickled their funny bone. It could be a suggestion for a movie, series, song, news item. You can share a joke or even personal anecdote.  All participants will have the opportunity to share or just listen if they prefer. This group meets via Zoom web conference on the last Thursday of every month from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Atlantic Time. Call in information will be given upon registration.

Parenting With Sight Loss Group

A support group for blind/partially sighted parents.  From infancy to adulthood - blind mothers and fathers can learn, explore, and share their triumphs, challenges, tips and stories among peers in a supportive environment. This group runs via Zoom web conference on August 12 from 4 to 5 p.m. Eastern Time. Call in information will be given upon registration.
