Message to CNIB Lake Joe Family

We hope you're staying healthy and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. On May 19, the Government of Ontario announced that overnight camps will not be permitted to operate in the summer of 2020. While this is very difficult to hear, CNIB Lake Joe understands and supports this decision as it puts health and safety first. We are truly disappointed that cancelling in-person programs at CNIB Lake Joe means we won't see you at camp this summer, but we know there is so much to look forward to, with brighter days ahead. For now, we need to stay connected in other ways.

Based on your feedback, CNIB Lake Joe is offering virtual camp programs online and over the phone – some that you may already have participated in. From coffee chats to arts and crafts, trivia sessions and campfire singalongs, we invite you to join us for CNIBLakeJoe@Home programs – opportunities for our community to come together and experience the magic of CNIB Lake Joe from home. We also invite you to participate in the CNIB Foundation's virtual programs (e.g. career support, tech training, book clubs, youth groups) to connect with friends, new and old.

Registration & Refunds

If you have already paid your registration fees for camp, you will receive a full refund. You also have the option to defer your registration fee to 2021. Or, if you would like to donate the value of your registration fee, a tax receipt will be provided. Your generosity will help CNIB Lake Joe continue to deliver life-changing programs in person, online and over the phone. Thank you!

Starting next week, we will be calling you to check in and answer any questions you may have. As it will take some time to reach out to everyone, we would like to thank you for your patience in advance. We will continue to be in touch with our community through our CNIB Lake Joe newsletter and regular updates on social media.

This summer will be different than we had hoped, but we are committed to keeping our amazing community connected. We can't wait to welcome you to our home at CNIB Lake Joe. Until then, stay healthy and safe!

April 17, 2024 – Yesterday, the Government of Canada released Budget 2024 and announced that the long-awaited Canada Disability Benefit will start in July 2025, pending a regulatory design process. The benefit will be funded with $6.1 billion over the next six years. 

This investment equates to a proposed maximum of $200 per month for eligible recipients who qualify for the Disability Tax Credit. Further, Budget 2024 does not invest in a strategy or programs that enable people who are blind or have low vision to join the workforce. 

While the passage of the Canada Disability Benefit Act was an important first step, CNIB joins the growing list of organizations and advocates calling on the government to commit to more support to lift people with disabilities out of poverty.  
Together, CNIB and CIRA are making the internet a safer and more equitable place for young people living with blindness.
