BARRIE, ONT., August 16, 2021 – CNIB, Canada’s largest non-profit serving people with sight loss, celebrated the grand opening of the Nanji Family Foundation CNIB SmartLife Centre in Barrie on August 13, 2021.

CNIB Lake Joe, located in the heart of Muskoka, is hosting it’s fifth annual signature fundraising event today, in partnership with the Antique and Classic Boat Society – Toronto.

In May 2021, the Ontario government published a report that contained 22 initial recommendations for a Health Care Standard under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA), which would identify and address accessibility barriers in the health care sector.

SEGUIN TOWNSHIP, ON – CNIB, Canada’s largest non-profit organization serving people with sight loss, announced its fifth annual summer fundraiser, CNIB Muskoka Dock to Dock: Poker Run today. This signature event, hosted by the CNIB Lake Joe Fundraising Committee in partnership with the Antique and Classic Boat Society – Toronto, will support programs and services provided by CNIB Lake Joe.

In celebration of CNIB Lake Joe’s 60th Anniversary, AMI presents a new documentary: Ripples – CNIB Lake Joe.
“Ripples” celebrates all of the incredible growth and transformation that both the camp and its campers have experienced over the last 60 years and looks ahead toward a bright future.
“Ripples” airs on Friday August 6 at 8 p.m. ET on AMI tv.

Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) there are a number of committees that are tasked with reviewing or developing new accessibility standards. The Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) Education Standards Development Committee has released their drafted recommendations in developing accessibility standards in education. We’re asking community members to respond to the recommendations to ensure the proposed standards include the voices of people who are blind, partially sighted, or Deafblind. CARLETON PLACE, ON – As part of CNIB Guide Dogs' class of 2021, 20 Canadians who are blind or partially sighted are graduating with their guide dogs today – International Guide Dog Day – after completing intensive training.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the CNIB Foundation has been working hard to develop innovative methods to deliver our programs and services when we couldn’t physically be together. Virtual programs have allowed us to be more cost efficient, and to eliminate transportation and geographic barriers for participants. Meaning that we’re able to reach and empower more Kitchener area residents living with sight loss than ever before – no matter where they reside.

As we continue to explore opportunities for our community to visit CNIB Lake Joe safely, we’re piloting Holiday Week programs in August.

This new offering invites guests who are blind or partially sighted to visit CNIB Lake Joe with family members from the same household.

Holiday Weeks will focus on independent, self-directed activities. There will be no formal programming offered. Instead, guests are encouraged to choose their own adventure and build their own experiences.
