Guide dogs and their handlers belong everywhere – it's the law

The CNIB Foundation is calling for an end to discrimination against Canadians who depend on guide dogs for mobility, safety and increased independence.

In all of Canada's 10 provinces and three territories, legislation prohibits discriminating against a person with a disability who is working with a guide dog. Discrimination includes denial of access to any premises to which the public would normally have access.

Bill C-81: the next step in accessibility for all Canadians

Bill C-81 is now law. After receiving royal assent on June 21, the Act to Ensure a Barrier-Free Canada – or the Accessible Canada Act – will now proactively eliminate and prevent barriers and ensure greater opportunities for persons with disabilities.

CNIB Foundation opens Ottawa Community Hub in Lansdowne Park

The CNIB Ottawa Community Hub, at 425 Marché Way, hosts an extensive menu of offerings, including accessible technology training, advocacy resources, child and youth programming, peer support sessions as well as opportunities within culture, recreation and sport.

Equalize – June 2019
