Every year, the CNIB Foundation's scholarship program awards multiple scholarships to students who are blind or partially sighted in recognition of their academic aspirations and achievements.

If your education or employment has been impacted by COVID-19, these scholarships may help you with pursuing new opportunities.

If you are pursuing a post-secondary diploma, degree, skilled trades certificate or apprenticeship program in the 2020/21 academic year, we want to hear from you!

The scholarship application process will open June 1, 2020. Applications must be received by July 5, 2020.

 

CNIB Post-Secondary Scholarships

Students who apply for a CNIB post-secondary scholarship are automatically entered for five scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.

Eligibility
To be eligible for a CNIB post-secondary scholarship, you must:

  • Be pursuing a post-secondary diploma, degree, skilled trades certificate or apprenticeship program in the fall of 2020.
  • Be blind or partially sighted (less than 20/70 corrected vision).
  • Be a Canadian citizen or have held landed immigrant status for one year prior to the date of application.
  • Be highly motivated, independent and able to demonstrate a reasonable level of personal achievement.

How to apply
Interested applicants must submit a completed application form, along with the following documents:

  • Proof of secondary school completion (interim)
  • At least two reference letters from a teacher/school official/volunteer supervisor
  • An acceptance letter from a post-secondary institution, college or university
  • An essay (max. 1000 words) telling us how this scholarship will change what it is to be blind for you as you pursue your post-secondary education
  • Interim transcript
  • List of other sources of funding, if applicable

Recipients are selected by the CNIB Scholarship Committee. Applicants that are awarded a CNIB scholarship will be notified via email in August 2020.

 

CNIB Master’s Scholarships

CNIB also has two Master's Scholarships – one valued at $12,500 and one valued at $5,000.

Eligibility
To be eligible for a CNIB Master's scholarship, you must:

  • Be blind or partially sighted (less than 20/70 corrected vision)
  • Be a Canadian citizen or have held landed immigrant status for one year prior to the date of application
  • Be a university graduate who is entering a post-graduate education program
  • Plan to study at a Canadian university, or a foreign university where a commitment to return to Canada is expressed
  • Have a high academic standing with demonstrated superior intellectual ability and judgment

How to apply
Interested applicants must submit a completed application form, along with the following documents:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Acceptance letter from the institution where advanced training will be pursued
  • A reference letter
  • Official transcripts from university as evidence of applicant's academic standing at graduate level
