On July 18, 2019 at the Lawson Heights Mall in front of Beauty Plus from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., CNIB Foundation Saskatchewan will have a booth set up to collect donations of smart phones for the Phone it Forward program.

The Phone it Forward Program is where people can donate their smart phones to change the life of someone who is blind or partially sighted. Smart phones are critical tools that revolutionize daily lives of people who are blind by providing a portable all in one communications and accessibility solution. The CNIB Foundation will train the recipients on how to benefit from the smartphone features and apps available to them.

All smartphones now offer built-in “voice over” technology, which reads aloud everything that appears on the phone’s screen so that a person who is blind can access it. Additionally, the smartphones in this program will be outfitted with a suite of accessible apps that make it possible for users who are blind to do all kinds of things that may have seemed challenging before.

Modern smartphones allow people who are blind to:
•    Read prescription labels and take medication safely
•    Recognize the faces of loved ones
•    Access emergency assistance from sighted volunteers
•    Travel safely alone using GPS
•    And do hundreds of other day-to-day tasks most of us take for granted

In order to receive a tax receipt, the phone must be gently used and an iPhone 5 or higher, a Google or Android device. For a complete list of eligible phones people can go to If the phone is not eligible for a tax receipt we will accept it and dispose of it safely.
