Northern Exposure (NorEx)

Grades 6-8

Northern Exposure (NorEx) is an opportunity for youth who are blind or partially sighted to engage in active experiences in a safe, accessible and fun environment that support the learning outcomes of the physical education curriculum. Our skilled staff will provide opportunities for students to push themselves and develop their confidence through active programs, which may include experiences like voyageur and tandem canoeing, archery, tandem-cycling, and sailing just to name a few. Health and wellness activities will further support independence and promote healthy eating which complement this adaptive sports program. Youth in this program may be supported by itinerant teachers and/or Vision Loss Rehabilitation staff.

What you need to know

  • All summer programs at Lake Joe include meals, shared accommodations, on-site programming (canoeing, kayaking, waterskiing and sailing), land and water activities, and evening programs.
  • At Lake Joe, we strive to be inclusive in all aspects of camp life. Many of our guests come with additional needs outside of vision loss. Our Wellness staff are here to support guests with their health needs ensuring that our guests can enjoy all that Lake Joe has to offer. Guests can also select the diet that best fits their needs and there is always a helping hand from a staff member to assist our guests with any help they might need.
  • CNIB's Lake Joseph Centre, local CNIB offices across Ontario and the Lions of Ontario work together to provide financial assistance to Ontario residents who would like to visit Lake Joe.
