- Works with Foundation staff to prepare and update volunteer position descriptions. Actively recruits, interviews, screens, places, and coordinates assignments; cultivates volunteers; matches volunteers’ profiles and competencies with appropriate assignments according to availability and location; provides orientation and ensures training of volunteers according to their assignment; provides direct supervision of volunteers as required.
- Supports staff who supervise volunteers and provides training on appropriate volunteer management processes.
- Coordinates a volunteer recognition program.
- In consultation with staff, ensures volunteers have an opportunity to share and receive feedback.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the program.
- Manages a database and tracking system of volunteer contact information, activities and hours.
To be eligible, students must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- Proven knowledge and skills in the volunteer management cycle, including program planning and development, recruitment, screening, selection and placement, orientation and training, supervision and evaluation, and recognition and retention.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to develop and deliver presentations and group training sessions.
- Proven supervisory and coaching skills.
- Creative problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized with excellent multi-project and time management skills.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.
- Proficient in the use of Raiser’s Edge Volunteer Module, or comparable volunteer information management system.
- A personal history of volunteerism.
- Volunteer Management Certificate from accredited program an asset.
- Able to work flexible hours.
- Travel across the region will be required.
