CNIB’s Lake Joseph Centre (commonly known as “Lake Joe”) is a fully accessible lakefront residential facility located in the Muskoka region of Ontario, providing a unique blend of recreation, skills training, social interaction, and personal discovery in a safe, inclusive environment. Two hours north of Toronto, Lake Joe stretches over 12.5 acres of waterfront property on the northwest corner of beautiful Lake Joseph. Staff and volunteers provide a wide range of high quality programs to people of all ages who are living with vision loss.

The Program Facilitator – Driver will hold guest experience as the highest priority while providing safe recreational opportunities for guests (seniors, adults, families, children and youth) attending the CNIB Lake Joseph Centre. This is accomplished through creative planning, energetic facilitation and excellent interpersonal skills. The Program Facilitator – Driver position supports all the Lake Joe programs (land, water, off-site) with the additional responsibility of taking on driver (boat, vehicle) functions. Drivers are responsible for ensuring safe, inclusive and fun experiences for all guests and take on a leadership role in the facilitation of off-site activities.


Essential Duties entail (but not limited to):

  • Energetically and inclusively facilitate programs (tubing, pontoon cruises, campfires, talent shows, off-site field trips) for our senior, adult, youth and family guests
  • Positively support waterfront programming in a non-lifeguard capacity
  • When assigned, enthusiastically support in tuck shop
  • Using a guest-focused approach, facilitate, support and evaluate programs
  • Champion a Culture of Volunteerism by supporting an environment where volunteers are respected and valued members of the team
  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to assigned program
  • Uphold all standards and policies of the CNIB Lake Joseph Centre, with particular care given to customer service
  • In an effort to expand upon Lake Joe’s programming, provide new and creative ideas with respect to scheduling, programs, and service delivery
  • Safely drive CNIB vehicles (18 passenger bus and mini-van) to transport guests to off-site activities and Muskoka events
  • Be enthusiastically available to support guests in the participation of these off-site activities and Muskoka events
  • Safely drive CNIB vehicles to pick up guests in Toronto, Hamilton, Sudbury and other destinations.  Ensure a fun, energetic guest experience throughout the entire transportation process
  • Safely drive CNIB water vehicles to help guests enjoy waterskiing, tubing and pontoon cruises
  • Assist guests by taking an active role in all dining room duties and responsibilities, including serving
  • Assist guests in the event of an emergency or whenever necessary within their cabins and program areas
  • Provide support, guidance, and leadership to volunteers, guests and site visitors
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and all ongoing and training
  • Take on other areas of responsibilities as need arises (e.g. tuck shop)
  • Enthusiastically take a role in any and all on-site programs
  • Understand and be sensitive to the unique and safety considerations that need to be taken when working with a special population
  • Keep guest safety at the forefront of the mind by complying with all traffic, waterway and road safety laws and demonstrate safe and responsible driving habits when in control of CNIB vehicles
  • Using exceptional interpersonal skills, participate in all land, water and off-site programs assigned
  • Actively participate in driver training for land vehicles and water vehicles
  • Provide assistance to all guests/staff and ensure their safety at all times
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Strong interpersonal skills including patience, empathy, and communication
  • Knowledge and experience in recreation programs and settings
  • Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check
  • Current G Class Drivers licence required
  • Current F Class Drivers licence an asset, will be required to upgrade from “G” license (Lake Joe will assist with this process)
  • Current and Valid Drivers Abstract
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR “C”
  • PCO (Pleasure Craft Operator) Card, or a willingness to obtain
  • Ability to work in a team setting and independently
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and effective communications skills
  • Swimming certifications such as Bronze Cross/NLS is an asset
  • Must be 21 years or older on the first day of employment
  • Experience working with people with vision loss or deaf-blind (children, teens, adults and seniors) as well as special needs is an asset
  • Ability to work flexible hours as well as standard camp hours
  • Ability to work in a changing and busy environment
  • Must reside at Lake Joseph Centre during operational season
