Job description

Acting as a communications generalist, this role provides broad communications and marketing support to the CNIB Foundation. The Coordinator is responsible for generating content for social media and the website as well as engaging traditional media to highlight CNIB Foundation programs and their social impact. This position also provides internal support around content creation and helps ensure adherence to branding and accessibility guidelines. The position works with both divisional and national departments and reports to the Executive Director.

This position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:
  • Monitor and evaluate issues of interest to the CNIB Foundation, exercising sound judgement as to when a response/engagement from the CNIB Foundation is appropriate and beneficial.
  • Generate and monitor online content.
  • website content and ensure the CNIB online event calendar is up to date.
  • Post social media content and respond to online engagements.
  • Provide support to internal communications needs.
  • Work with Program Leads to identify and write positive impact stories and highlights, including photos and videos, to support the Philanthropy team in reporting for grants and funders.
  • Offer communications advice and provide support for Program Leads in promoting CNIB Foundation programs and events.
  • Provide input, ideas and content for national media projects and endeavors.
  • Coordinate the creation, production and distribution of print media and alternate format materials.
  • Engage traditional media in highlighting the CNIB Foundation's program offerings, positive social impact, and philanthropic endeavors.
  • Develop and maintain relations with traditional media across Alberta and Northwest Territories.
  • Coordinate logistics around media engagements. (eg. interviews)
  • Ensure that CNIB Foundation is portrayed positively by proactively screening and approving content.
  • Conduct follow-up calls, monitor coverage, and secure spokespeople as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to the CNIB Foundation's branding and accessibility guidelines.
  • Work both independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Develop and maintain active working relationships with senior managers and program staff.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media.
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, external vendors, community agencies, volunteers and other partners.

  • Provide strategic solutions to routine and complicated problems in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with peers and management to ensure targets and goals are met.
Decision Autonomy:
  • Work under the general guidance of National/Divisional guidelines and standards, with latitude in making decisions on routine tasks.
  • Consult with Executive Director on issues that are more complex or require upper level approval.
  • Enhance team efforts on a professional level and share specialized knowledge, sources, experience, concepts and skills.
  • Engage in mentorship opportunities within the Communications team through working with interns and practicum students.
  • Take initiative to keep abreast of issues related to the CNIB Foundation and provide strategic advice on media/communications information.
  • An enthusiastic team player who is creative, highly organized and flexible; exercises good judgement; is diplomatic; and has a good sense of humour.
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to proof and evaluate both copy and graphic design.
  • Strong speaking skills, with the ability to engage in professional conversation with external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated skill in generating content in a variety of multimedia, including graphic design, photography, videography, virtual reality/ immersive content, and social media post/story design.
  • Fluency in a variety of social media platforms. Knowledge of Social Sprout is an asset.
  • Ability to think strategically and work proactively, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including the Office 365 cloud environment.
  • University graduate in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or an equivalent combination of education, training and expertise
  • Minimum two years of experience in communications/marketing. Practicum, internship and volunteer experience will be considered.
Working conditions
