This position will assist in the Advocacy and Accessible Community Engagement initiatives for participants with sight loss who are living in the Ontario West Region. This internship position will be responsible for assisting with the coordination of local and Regional advocacy initiatives, informing and implementing systemic provincial advocacy strategies, and for working with communities to Remove barriers people who are blind or partially sighted encounter in accessing the built environment, community services and information. The Intern will work with the Program Leads, Advocacy & Accessible Community Engagement, and stakeholders to identify local advocacy priorities like; employment, accessible technology, transportation, infrastructure, and more. This Internship position will also provide representational and logistical support to community initiatives.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Assisting in promoting advocacy and accessible communities initiatives to consumers and the public using various marketing tools such as social media, community outreach, etc.
- Assisting in the recruitment of volunteers to support Advocacy and accessible community engagement initiatives
- Contacting individuals interested in advocacy initiatives to determine the type of activities, events and speakers to be organized
- Assisting with the logistics of planning and implementing various activities, workshops and events
- Tracking attendance at activities and events, and enter data in the CNIB data base
- Distributing satisfaction surveys to participants
- Helping to compile program information, evaluation data and participant testimonials
Other duties as required that will support the development and implementation of this program, and which may include: keyboarding/data entry, sending faxes or emails, etc.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Team player Proven time management, planning, coordinating and organization skills
- Professional attitude with a focus on achieving results
- Proficient in MS Word, and willingness to learn data base
- Post-secondary education is an asset
