Eye Connect: Diabetic Retinopathy

Welcome to Eye Connect: Diabetic Retinopathy, CNIB’s resource centre for diabetic retinopathy – an eye condition that affects 500,000 Canadians. This web section provides information for people with diabetes, caregivers and health care professionals. We hope that you find everything you need here.

For people living with vision loss, this site provides a comprehensive overview of risk factors for developing diabetic retinopathy, prevention tips, treatments, tools available to you for adapting to vision loss and resources for emotional support.

Friends and family members of someone with vision loss may have a difficult time accepting and adapting as well. If a friend or loved one is diagnosed with vision loss, we have information on how you can support yourself as well as the person with vision loss.

And for health care professionals, we have a section that discusses the important role you play in your patients’ lives, a list of CNIB’s services that are available to you, and information on our In Focus webinar series.

In addition to this web resource, CNIB delivers community-based services across Canada to support people with vision loss. CNIB works with diabetes educators to help them support patients who are blind or partially sighted.

Whether you’re looking for emotional support, practical ways to manage your diabetes with vision loss, ways to stay active and independent, or more information about maintaining your vision health, we’re here to help you.

For more information on services available to you, please call the toll-free CNIB Helpline at 1-800-563-2642.
