Dining in the Dark - Brockville January 19, 2017 Ontario

1/19/2017 6:00 PM

Tall Ships Waterfront Grille, 6 Broad St., Brockville, Ontario K6V0B8

Ontario

Dining in the Dark is a unique culinary experience where guests can experience a meal without the use of sight. Based on a restaurant concept popularized in Paris and New York, guests can explore flavours, textures and aromas in a whole new way. Guests learn techniques like how to locate items at their place settings, how to identify items on their plate, how to manage the dining process and how to pour beverages. Dining in the Dark events are never meant to replicate the experience of living with blindness or partial sight. These events are simply designed to help people gain a better understanding of vision loss and the types of vision rehabilitation services that are available to members of our community. For many, this event may also illustrate some of the everyday activities we perhaps take for granted, like reading a menu, pouring cream into a cup of coffee, or locating cutlery, condiments or items on our dinner plate. Join us at Tall Ships Waterfront Grille for an evening you won't forget! To reserve your seat or if you are interested in a corporate sponsorship or corporate table sales contact Penny Bagnell at 1-613-542-4975 ext 5099 or penny.bagnell@cnib.ca. Tickets are $125 per person.

2/4/2017 10:00 AM

CNIB Centre, 1929 Bayview Avenue, Toronto

Ontario

As part of the Canadian Council of the Blind’s ‘White Cane Week’ public awareness campaign in February, the CCB Toronto Visionaries Chapter, in collaboration with CNIB Toronto and with the generous sponsorship of Accessible Media Inc, is hosting the 2017 WCW ‘Experience’ Expo. This hands-on, interactive exposition allows exhibitors to share their ‘experience’, providing creative, adaptive solutions to all aspects of life with vision loss. Through interactive demonstrations and activities, visitors can ‘experience’ new ways to overcome barriers, gain independence, and live a full, rich life. Come and engage with dozens of exhibitors to find out what it’s like – hands on – to navigate using a smart phone with Blind Square, test your putting skills – blind-folded! - with the Ontario Visually Impaired Golfers, try your hand at sculpting in clay with Hands of Fire Sculpture Group, or climb onto a tandem bike with Trailblazers Tandem Cycling! The CNIB will be on hand, demonstrating everything from cooking techniques to screen-readers! And much, much more! So come out to the ‘Experience’ Expo, get interactive, try something new, and explore the possibilities! Immediately following the Expo from 4pm to 8pm, the CCB Toronto Visionaries will be holding a Community Social featuring music, food, a cash bar & door prizes! Admission is free to the Expo and Community Social. But if you plan to attend the Community Social, please RSVP to our Voice Mail Line, 416-760-2163 or at ccbtorontovisionaries@gmail.com.
