5 reasons to make a planned gift

  1. Each gift is important, no matter the size. Many people think that if they were to make a gift in their will for a charity, it wouldn’t be significant enough to make a difference. The truth is that every gift matters, and every gift, no matter the size, helps us support those we serve. 
     
  2. You can support the CNIB Foundation without reducing gifts to your other beneficiaries. When properly planned, a bequest gift may actually help to reduce tax and not significantly affect what your loved ones would otherwise receive. 
     
  3. Every estate can benefit from tax savings. Your lawyer or financial advisor can show you how to help the CNIB Foundation while supporting your heirs and reducing taxes on your estate.
     
  4. You can decide how your money is used. By designating a gift for a specific program area, you’ll be able to support the CNIB Foundation programs and services that are most important to you.
     
  5. Your intentions and your personal information are always confidential. We always ensure that your wishes are met and that your personal information is kept confidential. Although it helps us plan for the future if you tell us about your planned gift, you and your gift can remain anonymous if you'd like.

April 17, 2024 – Yesterday, the Government of Canada released Budget 2024 and announced that the long-awaited Canada Disability Benefit will start in July 2025, pending a regulatory design process. The benefit will be funded with $6.1 billion over the next six years. 

This investment equates to a proposed maximum of $200 per month for eligible recipients who qualify for the Disability Tax Credit. Further, Budget 2024 does not invest in a strategy or programs that enable people who are blind or have low vision to join the workforce. 

While the passage of the Canada Disability Benefit Act was an important first step, CNIB joins the growing list of organizations and advocates calling on the government to commit to more support to lift people with disabilities out of poverty.  
Together, CNIB and CIRA are making the internet a safer and more equitable place for young people living with blindness.
