Soulpepper Theatre: After The Blackout. A new play by Judith Thompson May 19, 2018

5/19/2018 8:00 PM

Young Centre for Performing Arts, 50 Tank House Lane, Toronto, ON M5A 3C4

RARE Theatre Company in partnership with Soulpepper Theatre Company is thrilled toannounce the World Premiere of After the Blackout, written and directed by Judith Thompson. When the worst happens, what comes after? Six characters who are blind, deaf, brain injured and amputees teach each other how to see, hear, think and touch by uncovering what has been buried. Two-time Governor General’s Award-winner Judith Thompson returns with a new play performed and informed by a cast of differently-abled artists who are deaf, blind, living with brain injury, or living with lost limbs. A rich, emotional story with an edge of magic realism, After the Blackout is a hard-hitting original story through which Thompson has threaded extraordinary true stories bravely shared in the play’s development. After the Blackout will be performed by Prince Amponsah, Tamyka Bullen, Yousef Kadoura, Melanie Lepp, Catherine Joell MacKinnon, and Mary Beth Rubens. After the Blackout runs from May 8 to 26, opening on May 11. Live American Sign Language (ASL) interpreted performances for select dates: May 18, 19, 23 and 25, 2018 and Audio Descriptive Performances on May 19, 24 and 26. For more details about additional ticket prices visit soulpepper.ca or call the Young Centre Box Office at 416.866.8666.
